Well, Wavey and I got stuck in to a sumpguard this weekend.
Looks ghetto as hell. We'll see whether it's effective in a fortnight I suppose, but hopefully it will keep mud out of the radiator and maybe even help keep the front bumper on.
Now we've just got to find some weight to take out of the front end to compensate for the weight we've added.
Thinking back - I'm not sure why we bothered - we've never holed a sump before, and it's not as if we back off anywhere.
Last I've seen Wavey was
Last I've seen Wavey was going to try removing one of the front wheels! It should weight more than the sump guard, so it's going to do the job! Just don't stay on the outside of the corners, you may end up with a flying wheel knocking you over :-)
Haha... In his defence, we
Haha... In his defence, we torqued that wheel nut up and it still somehow came a bit loose later on in the day.
Ah well - not to worry, because I picked up a shiny new set of wheels today. Now we just have to find some tyres to go on them. :)
Those wheel nuts looked a
Those wheel nuts looked a bit strange, I guess that was your problem. I know that Travis had a few tyres for sale a while ago, you may want to give him a call. He should be in Collie this weekend, so I'll ask him if they are still in his shed.
Yeah no comment on the Wheel
Yeah no comment on the Wheel nuts,
The Sumpguard is made from a big thin sheet of steel, so should make a nice clang when it hits rocks the size of toasters! hopefully the self tappers hold! haha
I reckon the the car needs some stripes next, oh and less weight!
Have you guys tried sealing
Have you guys tried sealing up the car and filling it with helium? Or hydrogen maybe. Hydrogen is cheaper to purchase, but more expensive from a lifestyle POV.
Travis sold those wheels too.
Alex.
yer im pretty sure that if
yer im pretty sure that if those hyundais get too light they eventually will just lift up and drift away soon ... although it does seem to give you an advantage. but that sayd i was talking to gran the other day and she sayd that the 1st and 2nd positions alot of the time have to do with you 2 been great drivers...i have to agree with her.
Aww! *blushes* Hehe, thanks
Aww! *blushes*
Hehe, thanks for the compliment.
I wouldn't want to take anything away from our little Hyundais though - they are quite light. If you can't afford more power, subtracting some Hyundai is always a good thing.
As the late Colin Chapman once said - 'just add lightness'. :)
In low speed stuff, front wheel drive cars are very competitive - light enough to get through soft stuff, but most of the weight is over the front end giving decent traction. Since the back is so unweighted, they can get twitchy at higher speeds, but in a Khanacross it's not an issue, you want it to change direction as quickly as possible.
Hehe, I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about a few corners at Beverley - can't wait for next weekend!
yer i wont be doing it
yer i wont be doing it ..still have no car :(
Well, after working on the
Well, after working on the sump guard last night, it looks like we have a choice of headlights, bumper, sumpguard, pick 2 out of 3! The 3 of them don't seem to fit at the same time, so a fair bit of bumper trimming is in order.
Oh and the rear sumpguard mount still needs a bit of attention, as I don't think the 4 zip ties are going to last a full event!
Funny stuff,
Wavey.
So you added 3 tek screws.
So you added 3 tek screws.
Gold!
Curly, I reckon that you
Curly, I reckon that you tried the helium thing last weekend, but you got the gas bottle wrong and ended up with laughing gas! That's why you were laughing all the way!
It was pretty funny though -
It was pretty funny though - you've got to admit.
I still giggle when I think about some of the faster corners - being on full opposite lock, full noise, with mud and water leaping out of the way...
It almost ended differently though - I was as close to rolling it as I've ever been on the second last set off tests. Had to steer out of the roll pretty quickly to get it back on 4 (well, 3) wheels. :)
Chris K assures me we'll have some results soon.
