And if anyone saw the bounding, bouncing Excel on stage 4 last weekend, they might agree that our shocks don't seem to be lasting so well... I've never bounced so high in my life - I ended up completely off the track at one point.
Test 4 bounce-a ramma put paid to alfies lower control arm. Inner bush ra-ooted,outer bush pin bent and to cap it all off, lower ball joint attachment point holes flogged out to twice it original diameter
Hey Mike, I don't think it is at any one spot is rough, the track is just a little bit quicker than the others, so we are hitting the dips and ruts with greater speed. It was good to run the old start of test 4, having a few more good corners, when no one is running down the bottom, and access isn't needed.
I don't think that track 4 is in that bad a condition, it is definately the most fun.
Wavey.
The roughest part of test 4 is the bit just after the new start, heading straight on. It's a bigger, deeper rut, almost an undulation. But the ol' bouncy Hyundai tends to bounce a bit...
Of course, Wavey and I don't tend to aim for the smooth line...
God I love that stage - especially the run into the fenceline down towards the hairpin. I could do that corner all day.
That hairpin on test 4 was extremely well dug out on the inside. That might have been the quick way through except for that abyss. I hit it that hard it cracked the front bumper, caught the leading edge of my sump guard and folded it back under the car!
I had to jack it up in the pits and try to straighten it enough so the car would go back on the trailer.
Loads of fun though. It's the first time I've run test 4 with th old section included - what a hoot!
Just quietly, if the bumps on test 4 are killing your car, it's not the test's fault. The rear end on an X3 is pretty light...
We've been running standard shocks on all our cars on that test for years. At a ... fairly solid pace, and I blame water/dirt ingress for failures, rather than harsh bottoming.
I'd be checking to make sure it's bottoming out reasonably gently. If it is, then maybe it's binding somewhere or dirt's getting in.

Are you guys throwing 2nd hard parts at this thing, or splurging on something cheap and new?
