new car

well as my laser has seemingly died it looks as though im going to need a new car...
maybe a pulsar or a corolla twin cam...
so if any body has one or knows of any one who wants to get rid of one it would be greatly appreciated...
it only has to be road legal so we can get it up there and preferably $1000 or under

also if anyone has an old laser around 1985-1990 ...
we are hoping to get the old buggered one fixed for my l/p plates and i need a replacement engine/gearbox/clutch

Wasn't Mike Rowston selling

Wasn't Mike Rowston selling a Laser for $400 recently?

Maybe I'm biased, but our X3 cost us $700 from Pickles. Needed a new radiator and a headlight, but mechanically it's great.

What did you think of the Pulsar you borrowed? Those 1.8s are pretty torquey.

yer the pulsar was great...i

yer the pulsar was great...i was looking at a couple of excels in the quokka, not sure yet though

yer i got my excel licenced

yer i got my excel licenced for $500. i will keep an eye out for you through work if you like, were always trading in some cheap cars.....

Got a Mazda for sale... it

whatever colour it is...its just fast...

yer well seeing as the next

yer well seeing as the next event is only two weeks away now it looks like i may have to miss yet another event much to my disgust...i dont think we would be able to get a new car in this time... would really like to do the event but you know these things happen. but we shall see what occurs in the next week or two.

Of course, your case

Of course, your case probably wasn't helped by beating the owner of the last car you borrowed... :)

probably not ... maybe i

probably not ... maybe i should borrow someones car whom i would have no chance of beating...maybe that would work

It may have two eyes for

It may have two eyes for now, but that is only until Wavey drives it again in anger! And it is definitely greenish to me, although it was hard to say after it went through that big puddle!

I'm actually looking for somebody to buy at least part of the Mazda, I still love driving it but I don't have the time to look after it properly since I'm spending most of my time on the Charade. It must be somebody with some panel beating skills and room in the garage (obviously I lack both) :-)

haha hey raz, have you

haha hey raz, have you biffed the mazda again? or still bit dented from the rol? What you wanting for it? i might be keen soon ay, looking at gettin into the clubman rally side of things.

not that it has to do with

not that it has to do with buying the mazda...raz if either of the cars you have run 14 inch rally tyres and you have any tyres+wheels you want to get rid of/sell let me know because i am in dire need.

Get in line buddy, I called

hey guys i am gettin a

hey guys i am gettin a couple of sets of 14" secound handies, email me and i will hook u up with some tyres or people who have some... gmcintyre@westnet.com.au

I don't know what you are

I don't know what you are talking about Glen, the Mazda is in perfect shape. The only reason it looks a bit customized around the edges is to make it safer, it's got nothing to do with the roll! I just heard that bog makes a great crash barrier, so I used plenty :-)

I managed to break the rear diff support bracket in one of the boggy sections at Beverley last weekend and decided to pull out before I damage the transmission. It's not much, I've been told by the guys on the 323 forum that they usually seam weld the brackets anyway because they are a weak point. I didn't know that, but it won't happen again!

I won't sell the Mazda for less than 4k, I'd be happier if I could find somebody to share it for events like Beverley or Boddington. It does have a cage and is logbooked, so you could go rallying in it, but it's just so much fun in the khanas also! If I could actually avoid some of the penalties I may even win something!

I've got 14" wheels on the Charade and the Mazda, but it looks like they keep canceling stages this year and the rallies are only 40-50 km each so a set of tyres could last quite a while! I'll keep you posted if I've got any for sale, but Curly is indeed first on the list.

if i had the money raz i

if i had the money raz i would definatly be willing to go for a sharing type thing but...aint got no job and im doing school at the moment so big money is hard to come buy...yer glen i would be interested in some tyres i cant find no 14s so ill give you a email

ah yer ...i didnt realise

ah yer ...i didnt realise you were related to leigh

hey Aarin i reckon go with a

hey Aarin i reckon go with a N13 pulsarQ or a N14 Pulsar(Q) mines been great to considering the way i drive (after watching you drive last event was a real help seeing that my car driven a bit more sparingly and with a bit more thought could get a half decent placing, which i cottoned on to half way through the event Cheers Aarin) although an N13 Q with the viscous coupling lsd would be great they do wear out rather quickly and make a bit of noise ( not that i'de give two hoots) but they work great while their in tact.
Another suggestion would be an AE82 or AE92 corolla with the 1600 twin cam 4a-g motor or yet another suggestion would be a early st celica with the 2l twin cam or mark2 charade turbo GTI or GTT ( cant remember?) or even 1300 suzuki swift gti.
The possibilities are endless, i often see in the quokka early model saab 9 5 turbos for under a grand and wonder how they would go?

Ps. all the suggestions made above have been made to try and make sure the "Light Car Club. WA" does'nt become the "Hyundai Car Club. WA" hehehehe.

Ben

yer thats the only problem

yer thats the only problem with those hyundais...value for money and very compedative...but yes you wont catch me in one too soon...thinking about pulsars and corollas seriously dont no just yet though. i am endevouring to maybe get a sidedraft webber put on whicheva car i get when i get it , that only means getting a new manifold. still might be another laser yet, we are getting a 1.6 but dad says i have to keep it for L plates much to my disgust.....

the one thing i am not looking forward to is andrew getting his new civic, we will all be stuffed it has a 1.8 prelude engine for god sake.

Side draught weber - this

Side draught weber - this isn't 1970 any more. :)

Unless you're a carb tuning guru, you'll get more reliable power out of even a basic fuel injected setup. It'll take less maintenance and fiddling, and probably give you a broader spread of power.

If you want to fiddle with something, build your own EFI computer - google 'megasquirt'.

Obviously the Hyundai isn't the best car in the world - the important thing is to get the weight out of whatever you get and drive it really hard. I'm sure Tim Ralli's Coupe would be much faster if he was willing to strip it, but luckily for us he drives it to work, that's probably not the best option.

But yeah - Andrew's Civic scares me. I think our X3 will have to go on a diet in preparation.

yer i dont think ill be

yer i dont think ill be getting a new car too soon... if ben will keep letting me use his car i will but i dont want to wear the welcome out.

cant wait for another dryish khanacross now though wanna try and catch up to you guys if at all possible

Mate I'm more than willing

Mate I'm more than willing to let you borrow my car until you get a new one i know how hard it is trying to decide and you are by no means over staying your welcome.
i can also suggest putting a ad in the quokka in the "cars $2000 or less" and "performance" for a car suitable for khanacross for under $1500 thats how i ended up with my car, it's probably the best thing i had done after a couple of months of looking without avail, considering i had about four calls before 8am on thursday morning offering the same thing.

Cheer Ben

yer thanks ben ... let me

yer thanks ben ... let me know wen you are cleaning the pulsar or ever doing work on it because if i am going to be driving it you aint doing all the work on it

What kind of diet are you

What kind of diet are you thinking about for the X3? I was sort of waiting to see the trademark wobbly bonnet on the new one, but I see that you didn't get there yet :-)

There was a strange grin on Andrew's face on Sunday, I reckon I'll have to put that boost controller back on the Mazda or I may eat some dust from his Honda!

yer i think we are all i

yer i think we are all i little bit worried about andrews new car...should be very intiresting

Aarin, I reckon you should

Aarin, I reckon you should check out the auctions.

Something like this would be ok.

http://www.pickles.com.au/damaged/vehicle/CP-05-92-Toyota-Paseo-EL44-Oly...

It's not super quick, but it's reasonably small and light. 1.5l, twin cam.

That would go for under a grand, and wouldn't take much to get looking fairly straight. Lots of other option on the site though.

As for the diet - we haven't even cleaned the car properly yet, so we'll have to pull our fingers out if it's going to lose any meaningful weight.

yer actually that looks like

yer actually that looks like a very good idea to me ... shall look into the auctions a bit more

well my pulsar Q is well

well my pulsar Q is well into khanacross prep.

there is pretty much nothing left interior wise.

and all i need to do mechanically is get the head fixed.

having a bit of trouble getting rid of the sound proofing from on the floor... any quiker options than a hammer and a chisel ?

Dry Ice! Go down to BOC

Dry Ice!

Go down to BOC gases with a big esky (one of those polystyrene ones is best) and get 5-10kg of Dry Ice (solid CO2).

Take it home, and put a little bit in a plastic bottle half full of water. Whoops, that's not right.

Take it home and crush it into smaller bits and then pour that onto the sound deadening. Leave it for a bit (you'll hear some great cracking noises), then give it a hefty whack with a rubber mallet. It will hopefully come off in big sheets, easy as pie.

Oh, and be careful with the dry ice - use gloves and safety glasses etc etc. It's damn cold and will give you some nasty burns. Oh and kill your lawn. :)

ok will try the dry

ok will try the dry ice...

you should see my pulsar up there at one of the last 2 khanacross's.

just got to get the head looked at... it should be going out to shane eathers soon
